Me, my girlfriend and family just arrived in California:D! You don’t know how good this feels as we have always wanted to come to America.

We left Sydney at 3pm 25/06 and arrived in San Francisco at 11am 25/06…this feels so weird because technically we haven’t left yet:P!

We are pooped!! this will be our third flight we are about to board (towards Orlando) with about 17 hours of air travel, 4 crappy movies and too many hours on Super Mario 64 DS…

….thats not even counting the all the waiting times….we’ve pretty much been on the move for the last 30 hours!!

Once I get some internet on my mobile ill start posting some pictures of our travels but in the meantime I need some sleep… as after our flight to Orlando we get a measly 4 and a half hours sleep before catching our fourth flight to the Caribbean…and that’s when our holiday we officially start :)

So here it is, the long stretch from Sydney to Orlando. For this booking we went to bestfights.com.au. This particular flight has a stop over in San Fransisco, with a 4 hour wait over (that’s what you get for being on a student budget). And boy did we score a bargain on this flight. Note: This is a return flight.

Sydney to Orlando (With SanFran Stopover) International Air flight

Cost: $1055.03 total

Travel Time: 18.4 Hours

Stop over: 4 hours

Total Time: 22.4 Hours

And I wish that was it. Being a huge Pirates of the Caribbean fan and well you can’t deny that the Caribbean is breathtakingly beautiful, we decided to go on a cruise.

Of course the best cruise started as soon as we got to America, and of course it doesn’t leave from the US, it leaves from Puerta Rico. So we decided to spend the night at a hotel in the most conconvenient of all places, the actual airport, before ANOTHER flight from Orlando to Puerta Rico the next morning.

Note: Our flight lands just on Midnight and our next flight is in the morning FML

Not caring for luxury at all we went straight to Jetstar (jetstar.com.au) and booked two domestic flights. Note all prices I will quote is for 1 person unless stated otherwise.

Perth to Sydney Domestic Air flight

Cost: $185.00 total

Travel Time: 4 hours and 15 minutes

So now that we are in Sydney (we arrive at 6:10am, we have a 8 hour wait till our international flight leaves, luckily for us our parents have a hotel room (they are leaving a few days before us to spend time in Sydney) just 10 minutes from the airport where we can re-freshen up and have a sleep before arriving the recommended 3 hours prior to departure at the international airport. Knowing us its Maccas breakfast, a shower and a quick nap.

So lets cut to the chase, as of 8:58pm Tuesday 26th of April 2011 (Yes I realise this is a few weeks ago, but i’ve been finding it hard to write up this document due to end of semester exams) we have each spent $5,100 Australia Dollars for our 5 week trip.

We leave the night of our final exam and come back the night before day one of class for the new semester. We are that enthusiastic to go on this holiday that we want to squeeze every minute and second into making this trip worth our while.

So i’ll be trying to keep it interesting with a breakdown on flights, accommodation (you can see where we are staying) and some recommendations for when you want to book your holiday.

So, you’re thinking of leaving down under (or from anywhere in the world) to go to the big land of America. But you don’t know what its gonna cost ya.

Well me and my girlfriend (tanaddict.tumblr) are finally living our dreams and packing up mid-semester,mid-degree to leave Perth, Australia and go to the East Coast of the United States of A.

This has been a huge holiday in the planning as we both are studying full time as well as having part time jobs saving up (on our own - with minimal to no help from mommy and daddy) but its finally a one week countdown till we fly out!!! (yes we can hardly handle our excitement).

Our final destinations are as follows

1. Puerta Rico (The Caribbean)
2. St. Thomas (The Caribbean)
3. Barbados (The Caribbean)
4. St. Lucia (The Caribbean)
5. St. Kitts (The Caribbean)
6. St. Maarten (The Caribbean)
7. Orlando (Florida)
8. Miami (“B!tch”)
9. Washington DC 
10. New York

So as you can see its a HUGE holiday that we are spreading over a 5 week period. Pretty much exams finish this Thursday and we fly out the next day on the Friday while returning the day before class re-starts again for another semester.

So I hope we can give you some advice on what we did to cut costs down, where we booked who we booked it with and…what everyone seems to be scared to talk about… how much it actually cost us.
